Falling tree kills Matthews town official

A storm passing north of the Carolinas Saturday produced gusts higher than 40 mph in the Charlotte area, killing a Matthews town official on East Boulevard when a tree fell on her SUV.

Kay Plyler, the assistant town manager of Matthews, was driving a black GMC K1500 headed toward Queens Road West when the tree, on the corner of East Boulevard and Asheville Place, fell onto the vehicle around 2 p.m.

She and her daughter, Taylor, planned to attend a ball Saturday night and were in Charlotte getting their hair done, said Hazen Blodgett, the town manager of Matthews. Plyler's daughter sustained minor injuries and was treated at Carolinas Medical Center.

Thankful

Thankful the biopsy report came back benign for cancer cells.

Thyroid Mass

Recently diagnosed with a thyroid mass I had a ultrasound and FNA biopsy. Now we wait for the results and then probably surgery to remove the thyroid.

One day at a time.
